Chalkboard Hearts

Hi Everyone, 

Are you ready for Valentines day this year? 

No? Well today I have a quick Valentines gift you can whip up in an afternoon.

What you will need:

1. Wooden heart shapes ( I found mine in the kids section of our local craft store, Spotlight)

2. Wooden beads of various sizes (whatever you can find)

3. Chalkboard paint

4. Acrylic paint in your favourite colour/s

5. Rub on words or pictures (usually found in the Scrapbooking section of your craft store)

6. A coloured marker to edge the hearts (I used gold and silver)

7. Thread for hanging.

 

What to do:

1. Paint one side of each heart with chalkboard paint - you may need 2 coats.

2. Paint the other side of the heart a pretty colour.

3. Paint the wooden beads 

4. Prime the chalkboard with chalk then wipe off.

5. Apply a rub on word to the painted side. Or anything you'd like to embellish with actually.

6. Edge the heart with the marker pen

7. I made a little hole in the wooden heart using the sharp end of my nail scissors.

8. Thread the string through the heart, knot the string and thread the beads. knot again.

That was easy right?

 These are so cute hanging from a doorknob or as a tag on a back pack.

We gave a whole bunch of these as farewell gifts at Kindergarten and my little girl wrote her name on the chalkboard side for her teachers.

 

  

These were so fun to make that I got Sean to cut some larger hearts for my Christmas market, last year. Instead of using rub on's, I painted the words on instead.

Wooden Valentine Chimes

I love decorating with hearts,even outside of Valentines Day. 

This project has been at the back of my mind for a while and this week I finally made these wooden wind chimes.

So simple and so easy, all I used was a pack of wooden hearts from Spotlight and rub-on words.

I found the wooden round hanger thing, laying out in the garden, once a part of some longtime lost windchimes.

I painted the hearts grey, then white, distressed them and added the rub-on words. I also distressed the wording very carefully once it was on the wood.

I made a little hole in each of the hearts and threaded string through
 the hearts and the round hanger, making sure to position the hearts at different lengths but with the tips and tops touching slightly.

 

I love the noise these little chimes make as they catch the breeze 

 The words I used are "Love", "Dream" and "Believe".... Such strong words!

 

 Hanging in the window next to my work station, I can look at them every day. Of course I can hear them clinking together too.

Valentine's Charm Necklace

 

Hey Everyone,

Who's ready for Valentine's Day? 

Yeah me neither... This year is just rushing by way to fast already. So if you're looking for a very simple gift to make then look no further!

Today I'm going to show you how to make a simple necklace.

What you will need: Chain, jump rings and 5 charms (heart charms for Valentine's Day)

1. Cut 3 lengths of chain - make them different lengths.

2. Attach jump rings to the charms and add to the end of each chain. 

3. Attach the remaining 2 charms onto the longer chains about half way.

4. Thread all 3 lengths of chain onto a jump ring. Thread onto your necklace chain, attach clasps and voila!!!! 

 It's really easy right?

I love how the necklace hangs when on, so pretty.

Blingy Valentine Candles

Hey Everyone,

Hope you all had a great Valentines Day...

I made the easiest, cutest candles ever! 

I know there are loads of glitter candles around blog world, but I couldn't resist making a couple too...yup and blogging about it!

What do you need to do to make your very own??? Well a candle, glue and glitter....

Then....Cut a template out on a sheet of paper (I freehanded this one - no measuring involved)

Lay the template against the candle, 

thinly paint glue over the design and roll in glitter. 

Ta daaaa... I love an easy project!

I keep lids off the hot choc tins to use as bases for my candles, cute right?

 and I mixed standard green and blue glitter to get this turquoise -ish colour .

 

My little Valentines display in the kitchen...

Threaded Valentine Tins

My first Valentines project...finally!

I saw this pierced and threaded project on Pinterest and tracked it down to Recyclart. So cute - I loved the concept and decided to give it a go.

First off, in my excitement to complete these tins, I forgot to photograph the last few steps. Sorry ....

What you need:

A Tin (I like the pull tab lids, it keeps the edges neat and safer)

A hammer and screwdriver,

Paint, thread or twine and a large needle.

What to do:

1. Fill the tin with cold water and set in the freezer - this will help keep the shape of the tin.

2. Once the water is frozen, draw your heart onto the tin - I used a sharpie.

3. Carefully turn the tin on its side on a level surface and using the hammer and screwdriver - make the holes.
Alternatively and possibly a lot easier would be to use a drill. (I however have no drill capabilities so...)

4. Dry the tin out and paint. I painted the inside of the heart just for fun. 

5. I like the distressed look - so I gently sanded in places.   

6. Thread the needle and "sew" the heart shape. I ended off with a little bow.  

Adorable, don't you think?

 These cute tins would look awesome in the craft room with pencils or paintbrushes stored in them

I love how my candles fit so perfectly though...so they have become my candle holders for now!
