Han Solo Drawers

 Hey Everyone,

I'm so excited to show you this chest of drawers that I painted for my Star Wars mad 10 year old.

It started off as  plain white with some funky hardware which I like and decided to keep as is.

 

Initially Gabe wasn't sure what he wanted and was trying to decide between Han Solo or Darth Vader. Of course good won in the end and he decided Han was by far the favourite. So we found this image on Pinterest and traced it back to Strix.org.uk. Which is a stencil generator, we wasted a good few hours creating others, it's very fun.

I used a projector connected to a laptop to project the image onto the drawers. It was very easy to do.

 Using a pencil I quickly and lightly traced around the edges. 

 I used black acrylic paint to fill the image in. This is an awful night time photo, and possibly I should have painted during the day, but I just couldn't stop. I was having too much fun,

The next day I gave Han a second coat of paint. Isn't he gorgeous?

 

 Once the paint was dry, I carefully waxed and buffed the entire chest of drawers.

 I am so impressed with how this project turned out. It was easier than I expected and so much more fun than I thought it would be. 

My son just loves it in his Star Wars themed room.

It is budget friendly too. It only cost the price of black paint sample pot .

And in a few years when my tween no longer wants a giant Han Solo on his chest of drawers, its easily sanded off and repainted.Take care

Modern Buffet Makeover

Hey Everyone,

Finally I'm sharing my buffet!! Only took a while right?

I spotted this Ikea beauty on a local Facebook page and quickly offered all my money!!! Sorry for the blurry pic - we wont discuss my awful cellphone!

 I had planned to wait a while before painting but inspiration struck and I couldn't stop myself!

I wanted a modern piece that still incorporated my favourite white but it also needed to fit in with the beachy look.

I knew I was going to use it to house the TV and decoder so we removed the 3 small drawers and Sean removed the drawer runners and built a shelf.

 I primed the entire piece before painting then painted two coats after the primer. It took a few coats here and there before I was happy with the final look

 I put the original hardware back on...

And distressed the edges ever so slightly...

Then a coat of polish and she was ready to go.

 

We decided to use her in the living room as a hold all and for the tv.

I am so happy with the end result and still cant believe how well the makeover went. I was fully expecting to have to repaint the whole thing white.

Striped Beachy Blanket Box

Hey Everyone,

Happy New Year (a bit late, sorry). I've done a few makeovers this Summer and I have so much to show you all. 

So lets start with this old blanket box, that I've had for about 12 years. It had seen better days and was looking really dated. Time for a bit of love and paint!

 

The first order of business was to remove the hardware (those corner arrow things, had to go!)

The bottom edging was just awful, many a toe had been stubbed on those sharp corners, so they were ripped off too!

After giving the whole chest a good clean, a layer of primer was painted. I sanded a few panels and left them unprimed so that I could stain them.

 

I used leftover paint samples to paint the wood panels. It was great fun mixing and matching the panels and a few had to be re-painted so that it looked more cohesive. Other than that, there was no rhyme or reason to the colours.

Once painted, I hand sanded and distressed the entire chest, then applied a couple of layers of polish to protect it.

 The side pulls and original latch went back on after a good clean. And I think it looks great.
The colours compliment each other and the chest fits perfectly with my beachy decor.

I love this transformation so much!

I know I neglected my blog last year so I'm going to make it my New Year's resolution to blog at least once a week, every week this year. So stick around in 2015 ;-)

Girl's Drawer Makeover

 Hey Everyone,

I made over this wee cabinet in a few hours, it was so quick!

When we bought Gabe's bed off Trade Me last year, it came with this extra little drawer set that he didn't want, so it ended up being used as extra storage for the girls clothes. The drawers have a type of laminate on them and were in good nick but the wooden top and sides were scratched and boring!

I painted 2 coats of Dulux Taradale (Pink) on the wooden shell and sanded a bit to neaten up. It was a perfect day for painting, not too hot or cold!

I found these adorable removable wall stickers from the dollar shop and knew they would be perfect on the laminate drawers.

 What's really great about the wall stickers is that when the girls outgrow fairies, they can be easily removed with no damage to the drawers.

Seriously, how cute right?

This project is an epic hit with the girls and I'm really happy with the transformation.

I had the pink paint on hand already so I just spent $3 for the stickers.
 
Not bad for $3 huh? My kind of makeover!

Painted Wooden Spoons

 Hi Everyone,

I know painted wooden spoons have been done A LOT in blog world, but I really love them, so had to try them myself!

And they are soooooo easy! Super easy and quick to do.

So go grab yourself a set from the dollar shop and lets paint some wooden spoons! This set was approx $3 and made from bamboo.

 

Literally all you do is tape around the spoon where you want and paint the ends with your choice of colour. 

Of course I used white paint (Dulux acrylic interior paint) and painted 2 layers.

Once dry I sanded evenly and distressed the edges.

I threaded twine through the holes at the base of the handles, just for a fun look.

I am really happy with the end result. I use them a lot and they have washed extremely well.

 I think this is such a fun, inexpensive gift idea too, don't you?
