Love Blocks - Made Over

Hey guys,

Its been a while again, I know!
Its been a crazy busy year and as the kids get older, they get busier and life kind of gets away from me.
Today I wanted to share a little makeover that I did some time ago but of course never got around to blogging about.

These blocks were on sale at K-mart last year - I think they were $6.
Of course I was going to paint them right?

I gently pried the letters off the blocks with a sharp knife. Painted the letters white and painted the blocks turquoise in a slight ombre effect.
Once all the paint was dry and after a quick sanding, I carefully glued the letters back onto the blocks!

Super easy! So pretty!

Of course they go with my decor, being white and turquoise, but any colour combination would be lovely.

When I tire of the blue, I think I'll paint the blocks white and the letters black again.

Take Care everyone, thanks for visiting.

DIY Fabric Candelier

 Hey Everyone,

Its been a busy week, getting ready for the end of school term, taking care of a sick wee one and preparing for her birthday.
But I couldn't resist quickly whipping up a fabric chandelier, I've seen them all over Pinterest and thought they looked really pretty and pretty easy!

If you have an embroidery hoop spare and some scrap fabric, you can throw one together in less than an hour!

I used my glue gun to secure strips of fabric, ribbon and lace to the inner hoop and once filled, I slotted the outer hoop on and secured it. I used left over ribbon to hang the chandelier.

See - so easy!

We had some sun today so I took my new fabric chandelier outside for a few photos!

Don't you just love how it looks, picking up a gentle breeze?

I'm going to hang it up in my room, and the girls have asked for one too, so I think a blinged up pink one may be in the cards real soon!

And it most definitely cheered up my Winter's day!

Take care

Lighthouse Love

A couple of months ago, while cruising around a thrift shop, I spotted this lighthouse in all it's awful glory....
And I decided for $8, I would take it home and work some magic!

It sat for a few weeks until I got up the courage to sand it down and paint it..

Well paint it, I did.... Then after distressing it, I decided a nice rub down with some dark wood stain and it would look awesome...

Ummm!!! Yeah....not!

Again, the poor sad thing sat waiting for me to give it another try.
I worked harder to get it looking even and weathered.

And it's perfect with my beachy themed decor.
I'm really glad I gave it a second chance!
I bet my family thought they were going to have to live with that ugly lighthouse! It's cute now though!

And so...a before and after..... aaah I love my lighthouse!

Take care everyone

Upcycled Dresser to TV Cabinet

Hey Everyone,

I shared this post at Inspiration Cafe a few months ago.

Its been a while since I had a piece of furniture to repurpose.

I've missed the sanding, painting and distressing...its therapeutic to me.

I love that my hubby can get involved too, he rolls his eyes at my ideas sometimes and yet he is always surprised at how well it turns out!
After all these years he really shouldn't doubt me!!!

The TV stand in our living room has always been either this monstrous dark chest or an awful black cabinet (which has long been moved to the sidewalk)
I love that old dark chest, my Mom gave it to me for my 16th birthday. I have plans to paint it one day, but I'm still thinking about it though.

It just wasn't working in the corner of the room, it was too dark, heavy and in the way. Has been for the last five years.

A couple of years back I bought an ugly laminated chest of drawers from the thrift store for the kids to use. Ugly...

Then after living with all this darkness and ugliness for long enough I enlisted Sean's help to convert the chest of drawers into a TV cabinet. Easy right?

We ripped the back off, removed and reused the wood from the drawers to build a new base and shelf.
Then a couple of coats of white paint, distressing and sealing, the cabinet was good to go!

This was a pretty easy weekend project.

I bought the wicker baskets on clearance at Briscoes. The kids store their mega blocks in them and I'm a happier mum with a neater living room.

The whole corner of the room has opened right up and it looks so spacious, modern and clean.

I'm seriously loving all the extra natural light too.

This Instagram photo was taken on a very humid day in Summer and while I took it of Maclayne just laying around trying to cool down, the cabinet looks really great and the room so fresh.

As you can see Sean has already upgraded his speaker system!

Now I'm looking for my next big project!

Take Care
