Super Easy Fridge Magnets

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year! I hope you've all had a great start to the year.
I'm going to keep my promise of blogging more often this year and today I'm going to show you a super quick and easy craft. I made these with my girls as they just love fridge magnets.

What you need:

Cardstock or pretty paper
Clear Epoxy Stickers (off eBay)
Magnets (I have a magnet sheet that I cut up)

Stick the clear epoxy sticker onto the card (I used scrapbooking card). Press until all the air bubbles have been smoothed out. Then simply cut around the sticker and glue a piece of magnet onto the back.

Stick them onto the fridge and ta-da!

This is the perfect activity to do with the kids on a rainy day. Any design or picture would be perfect!

Take care everyone, thanks for visiting.

Colourful Kmart Shadowbox Hack

Hi Everyone,

I know, I've been so awful at keeping my blog up to date, and I have so much to show you all. I'm going to make a concerted effort to post at least once a week from now on. No really!

Today I want to show you my very simple take on the popular Kmart Shadowbox hack...

I started with this $12 shadowbox from Kmart.... pretty cool as it is but I had a wee plan in mind...

I painted the outside of the box and the edging white to start with, then used my left over pots of paint for each little shelf. I added white to the paint to give a "bright" pastel look, kind of like jelly.
Finally I painted the little heart white too.

Its a cute Lalaloopsy display house! My youngest girl was beside herself with excitement when she saw it.

Don't you think it looks a little like stained glass?

My girls have had so much fun restyling their new display box.
At the moment, the pony's have moved in and they look awesome too!

I love projects like this, that are easy, inexpensive and fun to do.

Take care

Santa's Key

Do you all have chimneys for Santa to climb down on Christmas Eve? We don't and every year the  kids ask how Santa will get in ...they never seem happy enough with our answer of Daddy will leave the door unlocked.

So this year I decided to make them a magical key to open our back door,  all the way from the North Pole!

I made the key, wrote a letter from Santa explaining the plan and popped them into an envelope addressed to the kids and left it in the letter box for them to find....

Here's how I did it....
I used a fairly large bronze key char, painted the main parts with silver nail polish and while still wet, applied silver glitter . When the key was dry on both sides I added a gold ribbon to hang the key with.

I drafted this letter in PicMonkey, please feel free to use it, if you would like to send your kids a key from Santa too. Just right click on the letter and save it to your computer.

Gabe ran up to check the mail this afternoon and made the discovery!

The kids are so, so excited! They love that Santa asked them help and the keep going to check on the magical glittery key (hanging on the tree for now).

Are you nearly ready for Christmas? Just a few more sleeps!

Girl's Swim Bag

I shared this at Inspiration Cafe in August for our "Kidding Around" series.

This is the easiest and quickest project ever! Okay maybe not "ever".. but pretty close!

This project was a great collaboration between my 5 year old and me.
She desperately needed a new swim bag as her old plastic Dora one was literally held together by a few threads. And the fact that she is nearly 6 and Dora is sooooo 3 years ago, she wanted to choose something more her own style.

A trip to Spotlight was in order and she chose all the components (I had another idea in my head but this time I let her have artistic reign).

What you need for your very own bag:
Stencil, fabric pens and a bag
(we chose a calico craft bag for approx $6)
The whole project cost $17.

I placed a sheet of thick cardboard into the bag first just in case the pen came through the fabric, which it didn't, much to my surprise!
Position the stencil where you want to draw, I didnt measure, which I think you probably should do.
Once you have drawn your design on using fabric markers, iron the bag to set the ink.
I love it and Payton is thrilled with her new bag.

I only drew one flower onto the back of the bag, so it wasn't too plain.

Payton has it all packed and ready for her next swim class!

Take care

Jewelry Display Holder

Hey Everyone,

Guess I what I finally made? Yup something to hang my jewelry bits up on!!

Last year I bought this old bedside table off Trade Me for a dollar and we converted the table part in to a Little Kitchen Island.
I took the door off and kept it for this very project.

So, I painted it white, then turquoise and distressed it.
Then I screwed in a few spare screws, to hold bracelets and necklaces...

Applied white card rub-ons (love them!!)
Added a few painted wooden embellishments, and a wire running along the middle to hang earrings or necklaces on.

I used 3M command strips to secure the door to the wall and there you have it!
Cute, recycled and functional!
And with some of my items displayed!

I am really enjoying having all my necklaces hanging up for me to see and choose from. And I like that it matches my room decor!

Take care everyone,

Family Sign

I have to admit to you all that I'm in a bit of a creative fog right now.
I'm just taking it slow and hoping inspiration hits real soon.

I made this cute little sign a while ago now, so thought I would show you how!

I think I got the Family sign at Spotlight with a voucher.

Firstly I painted the wood a charcoal colour, then the turquoise over it. I distressed it so that a fair bit of the charcoal showed through. Then using card rub-ons I added some detail to the sign.

I love card rub-ons they are so versatile and add to the overall look of the finished item.

To add some protection to the sign, I gave it a few coats of varnish.

So cute - it looks right at home on the shelf

Take care everyone,

More Simple Decor Updates

Hey Everyone,

Today I'm continuing my little series on the simple updates I've done to my decor. I shared painted glassware in the first post here .

I love beachy decor, but then you all already knew that right? And with Summer peeking around the corner what better time than to change my decor up to fit in with my beach theme.

The easiest way to update plain vases or ornaments is with embellishments...

I was given this vase, it was pink with bee's all over it - yikes.
So way back when - I painted it white and had a leaf charm on it. Not my style at all - what was I thinking?

Some jute and turquoise blue shell beads fixed that soon enough -what a difference...

I picked up this wooden "cup" that had seen better days, for free from a thrift shop and once apon a time had painted it an off white and distressed it.
It looked okay but needed something.
I painted it white and added some jute to the "stem" and a seaglass bead - it totally works for me now.

I really cannot remember what state this little vase was in when I got it, but all that brown cord looked awful right? I changed out the brown with turquoise and a few river pearl beads and voila -gorgeous

So simple yet so effective , and I can change it up whenever I'm tired of it.

Do you have any simple decor tips that you like to use around your home?

My friend Mary from Sweet Little Bluebird has some great seasonal frames, check out her cute Fall frames here. Tell her I sent you and say hi from me.

Have a great day
