An Awesome Spider

Really??? A Spider - Awesome???

If you know me well (or even not so well) you will know I'm an arachnophobe of note! I have an abnormal fear of spiders - ABNORMAL I tell you  - and I have no shame in saying, that I am instilling that fear in my kids too - Nope I cant even pretend!

My dear husband takes great joy in teasing me with "rescued" spiders that he is removing from the house, usually dangling from his fingers by their creepy thready things....shudder.....
So a few months ago when getting into the car for the school run - something dropped onto the car door!

If I had seen it was a spider I would have run inside the house screaming, leaving the kids to deal with it (don't judge me!)

But it looked like a bug....

Have you ever seen anything like it? Really??

So yes I raced inside, but it was to grab my old camera, so I could have proof of this strange beastie...

The kids and I were fascinated, discussing back and forth if it was a bug or spider.... it had 8 legs after all....

Then it WEBBED..... and dropped down the inside of the car, and we screamed - okay so I screamed and the kids squealed..... and it landed on the ground!

Eew eew...crazy dance ( I looked like I was doing the highland fling) Kids loved it!

We were late for school so I promised the kiddos I would rescue it if it was still there when I got home....

Umm....I may have squashed it in my hurry to run away get to school!

There was a spidey sized splat when I got back home.....

Of course it was the first thing asked of me when I picked them up 6 hours later! Seriously? They thought about it that long?

But I did research the spider - and it was at least a 2 hour search!
Just before I gave up, convinced it was probably just a bug - I found it....Its a Two Spined Spider

Poecilopachys Australasia
Okay whatever its doing with that spindly black leg (shudder) its freaking me out!

I'm not the only one talking about unusual spiders at the moment either .... check out Debbie's (from Debbiedoos), garden spider. Its cool - but I would not get past the garden gate with that monster residing there!
Sorry Debbie, but I hope you're sleeping with one eye open!!!

Happy Halloween Everybody...

Be safe

  1. EWWWW I can't believe you took a picture! I on the other hand, don't mind spiders but mice even toy ones and you'll hear me across the ocean! And sadly ants they make me vomit!

  2. LOL Natalie that looks like a mini alien. CREEPY for sure. My guy is still residing in the same spot. I guess he likes it there. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Uh, Yuck! Creepy little beastie for sure. He probably just wanted to be your friend. :)

  4. The hubs is way more of a girl than I am when it comes to spiders. I think that one looks really cool.

  5. Loved your post Natalie!! I'm an arachnophobe too and have been known to abandon my car on the side of the road for the smallest of spiders. Boy they sure do creep me out. But what a cool spider to find though. Really neat looking and a great story too.

  6. It's freaking me out too Nat as I have a seriously ABNORMAL fear of spiders, it's worse than anyone else's and yes I got it from my Mother !
    Gotta run - ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  7. YIKES! That is one cool looking spider, though! I love that you took all that time to identify it, otherwise I'd be searching the internet tonight! :O) I also love that you are freaked out by spiders...your husband must have a great time teasing you, freaking you out! Such a fun post Nat, thanks :)

  8. Loved your post Natalie. I live in south central Texas between Austin &
& San Antonio. We have some rather unusual spiders. But nothing
like your alien! Creepy! But at the same time interesting & intriguing.
    Thanks for sharing!

  9. Oh my heavens... I actually had to get super brave about spiders when I first lived alone. My condo was new construction... that meant that for a few weeks, the creepies had time to move in before doors and windows were installed. Some days I killed as many as FOUR in the house! I still find at least two a week!

I don't usually mind them outside, but on the car... way too close! Like, what if it fell in and was by me?? LOL!

We have big brown garden spiders called orb weavers that make really cool webs. I'm okay with those. I think what reassures me about outside spiders is that I read that they can't survive indoors (whew). So I don't worry about them moving in.

    Love the post. ;)

  10. Hi Natalie, I’m Anne from Life on the Funny Farm (, and I’m visiting from Finding the Funny.

That is one funky looking spider! Spiders don't bother me much, but that one? Ummmm. Did your research say whether it was poisonous? Yikes. No judegement here. None.

Anyway, thanks for posting this. I hope you can pop by my blog sometime to say hi…

  11. Awesome looking spider, glad you found it and showed us through your blog. :)

  12. I love how you were totally fine with it if it was a bug but when you found out it was a spider you went crazy. That thing is just awful. I thought this was bad but it's nothing compared to yours.

  13. Oh my goodness I hate Spiders but this one was pretty cool for a few minutes. I wonder if I'll ever see anything like it again?
Thank you all for your awesome comments everyone xxx Nat
